Yannis' mum is on her way to audition for a role as Shakespeare’s Viola, when she discovers that her young son has been left home alone. Through a series of phone calls, she fights to balance the most important roles of her life, whilst walking in the most controversial area of central Athens, Patision Avenue.

SYNOPSIS

PATISION AVENUE (13' | 2018) is a short film by Greek filmmaker Thanasis Neofotistos. It is one of the most acclaimed single long-take short films of its generation. The film had its world premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival and went on to win Best Film awards at Clermont-Ferrand, Sao Paulo, Busan, earn a nomination for the European Film Awards, and screen at over 100 festivals worldwide, receiving numerous awards and distinctions.

"PATISION AVENUE is my attempt to understand my mother; a creature of admirable sensitivity, torn between her female nature, stereotypes about women and her true desires. What I can now see is that she tried hard winning battles but losing others. As a Filmmaker this short was my personal Everest; a demanding single-long-take-shot in central Athens."

CV
Thanasis Neofotistos is a Greek film director, writer and architect. His work explores identity, fear and desire through symbolic and impressionistic storytelling grounded in realism. His short films, including AIRHOSTESS-737, PATISION AVENUE, ROUTE-3 and GREEK SCHOOL PRAYER, have premiered and received awards at major international festivals such as Venice, Sundance, Toronto, Locarno and Clermont-Ferrand. He served as Head Programmer of the Drama International Short Film Festival and is a member of the European and the Hellenic Film Academies. His debut feature film, THE BOY WITH THE LIGHT-BLUE EYES, is a dark coming-of-age folktale.
